How much are the grants?

Grants are fixed for each type of measure as indicated in the table below.

Grant approval must be in place before any purchase of materials or commencement of measures undertaken.

Grants are paid after the measures are completed and the contractor has been paid by the homeowner.

In the instance where the cost of the work (vat inclusive) is less than the fixed grant amount, the actual cost will be reimbursed.

Power Flushing
Power Flushing
'Power Flushing' is much more effective than just a 'Chemical Treatment' in the removal of sludge?

Power flushing makes use of a separate pump unit usually fitted, temporarily, in place of the normal system pump by appropriate hose union adaptors to significantly increase the velocity of the water around the system.

This creates turbulence within the system and 'physically' forces black sludge deposits to break down quite rapidly which are then removed through the system drain off points.

This form of treatment usually takes several hours whereas chemical treatment alone can take several days to be fully effective.

However, system hydraulics demands that water will always take the 'route of least resistance' (regardless of the flow rate), and severely restricted circuits may remain inadequately flushed.

Therefore forced flushing is no more effective than chemical treatment, and a combination of both is usually considered best practice.
